Combines stockchopping

No there isn't. At least not that I am aware of. We have been trying to solve this problem too. Have you ever heard of the Geringhoff cornheadIJIJ It is a corn head that chops up the stalks while you pick. A neighbor of ours bought one and used it this harvest and it did a very impressive job. It looked like a silage cutter just went through the field. There wasn't anything left. They were able to just follow behind the combine with their chisel plow. That would sure save a lot of time and then you wouldn't need to chop or disk.

I would like to know more about that chopper head, if you find any info, please share it with us. I have been playing around with an idea to mount a shredder on a cotton stipper to cut the stalks behind the stripper....I f you could save one trip across the field it has to be worth it.

Yes it is. I knew about this head but didn't realize it could chop the stalks that good. But I have seen the job it can do, it even cuts them to shreds when its a drizzly day. It does't cheat everthing is cut when it goes through the snapping rolls.

I am currently running a New Idea 6506 cornhead on my R5. Have done so for four years. This model of head has the replaceable blades on the snapping rolls which are of a very hard metal. The head is very agressive and does a good job at chopping up the stalks. The only one that comes close around here in the 800 series IH. In running the head on both seed corn and regular corn at (1000-1300acres_yr),there is very little wear on the blades and in fact they are as sharp as they were when the head was new. An added plus on the New Idea head is the power adjust stripper plate option. Nice feature when changing frequently from irrigated to dryland corn.
