I think you can remove shim's on the concave bottom to get the lever to go over center farther making it harder to spring open. If that doesn't work I would replace the lever. If I remember correctly I figured that a slug didn't open the door fast enough it was more like a push open and the spring latches flipped back closed. I finally got it to where I can close the door with one foot and trip the two spring latches with the other and it only comes open for rocks. I know your frustration. Hope that helps, Part-time
