Combines Stone trapIJ

The electronic stone trap on the TR's maintain the mechanical drum and trip door. The electronic just adds a sensor which hears a stone on the bottom of the feeder house and releases the door. I think mainly intended for flatter stones which did not trip the mechanical sensor. In corn the electronic is set to low sensitity ( 3 range settings ) and works pretty well. The operator still has to raise the drum to allow the ears to pass without tripping.

I would definately spend the extra money and purchase the one with the electronic stone trap. You still have the mechanical, but with the electronic, there is a sound board mounted on the feeder house floor under the front drum, which gives you that extra level of comfort because of the added level of protection. I am really surprised that anyone would ever order a TR without E.S.T., for resale value alone.

Most TR's here had the mechanical type. Only a few with electronic. Rocks not a real big problem for most people here, but I do farm some reclamed mine ground. A lot of rocks there.

That simply amazes me. Here in Saskatchewan, you would be crazy to not have it.

I have had 4 or 5 with and about that many without. I found it hard to keep the electronics working. I ended up having t unhook the electronic part. Keep the roller adjusted right and you should be ok. The drum in the center of the feeder house chain needs to be low enough to keep rocks from going under. By the way the CR rock detection system is awesome. It has two electronic detectors anda door that comes down in the feederhouse and the feeder house disengages fast! the trap door latches are hyd. and work great- after you learn how to operate them.

I'd stay mechanical. The electronic system on the CR scares me to death without the stone roll like the TRs had. A small rock (remember the really big rocks don't make it past the cutterbar generally anyway) could pass between the two detector plates in the middle of the crop mat and go right in since the rock or piece of, shall we say, ferrous material, actually has to contact the detector plates positioned above and below the incoming crop. Mechanical is the simplest and best way to go. 2 rotors are far too expensive to repair to rely on electronics alone. CR is impressive in other ways, but rock protection in my view is its weakest point, as another point of view.

I don't share your pessimism about the CR electronic stone detection system. I have operated the CR some 200 hrs this summer and find the system very sensitive and effective in wheat, barley and oats. Picking up barley and oats out of a windrow is quite dangerous especially when they cut down grain right on the ground. I don't think harvest support team has heard of any rock injestion problems this year. I think the CR system is the best on the market today. My concern with the TR electronic system was it's reliablity. The CR system has it's own diagnostics too so you don't have to worry that it maybe broken.

on the TR's when you get the electronic stone trap you still have the mechanical stone trap just the electronic sounding board has been added on to help to detect more stones rather than relying on the mechanical system alone.
