I don't see any reason why you would have to leave it on. I'd put it up in the shop and save it for when the next time comes that you think you need to add grease. Yank it off the gearbox and put on some sort of plug and run. like you, that's why I went to grease, that hose had disinegrated on me and next day doing checks I find same as no oil in the box. I changed the hose, pumped it full of grease and have been keeping my fingers crossed since. Did you have trouble with the lid staying closed on the top of that so called funnel piece that deere put on the end of the tube to add the oil_grease intoIJ Sometimes, I'd still like to wop an engineer on the backside of the head with some of the stupidity they come up with.
