Combines straw walker

The wires you're talking about are straw walker screens. These screens are additional_optional equipment that comes with the Corn-Soybean Special package or Corn-Plus package. They help keep corn cobs from clogging the walkers. Depending on the dampness of the soybean stems and_or the different soybean varieties, you can get green stems tangled inside the screen. But usually, the problem begins with worn chopper blades. Those blades with a rounded leading edge should be removed and turn-around if the other edge is un-used (square or sharply angled). Caution - blades are grouped in sets of 3 and these sets are balanced, so always re-install them back into their same locations. The gleaner chopper is designed to grab the straw and take it through the knives. If the blades are rounded, then they can't grab. One year I baled the walkers tight several times until I replaced all my chopper blades. Now - no problems. Except for the walkers, walker supports, and walker cranks that I had to replace because of the baling! If your not running a chopper, then removal of the separator beater may help stems feed un-interruptedly across the walkers. You could remove the walker screens, but if you harvest corn, I would leave them in.
