Combines Stress Crack in Frame of 1660

These are called supports I had to replace both right and left sides last fall during harvest. Be sure to check for cracks on the axle where supports mount. I have come to beleave it is the side to side motion that is doing the damage, you may want to take a look under a 2388 to see how a brace has been put on the axle to stop some of the side motion. (they don't make this in a kit for the 1660)

If you do decide to repair rather than replace, I would first grind out a V along the crack, fill that in with weld, grind it off flush. Then place a good piece of plate steel over the entire area, possibly with some holes for plug welding, and then weld it in place. The idea of looking at the brace for the 88 is a good idea too. I would think you can fabricate your own to put in place.
