Combines stripper headIJ

We have used a Shelbourne stripper header over the years on a wide variety of crops including grasses on a number of different combines. We may have a 2000 28 ft that is for sale and have both CIH and JD adapters for it.

Do you have to change anything on your stripper to go between wheat and grassIJIJ And what does your wife think of you out in a field late at night with a stripperIJ (just had to throw that in) Kurt

Hard red spring wheat is probably the toughest crop we have to strip while some of our grasses strip very easily. The only change we make moving from one crop to the other is to change the rotor speed on the stripper header(2 minute job) and adjust the rest of the combine accordingly. If asked, my wife would probably say that she would enjoy the break!

Thanks for the info. We are looking for a 20' head. You say that are using a shelbourne, do you know anything about the AGCO heads. One other thing, what kind of maintenance is there on these heads. Thanks again.

We tested an Agco prototype stripper back in 1994 as the project engineer was a friend of mine. It varied from the Shelbourne in that it's rotor is one piece (no center bearing),you changed rotor speed with a gear shift rather than swapping gears and was of course painted red and black. We find the maintenance of these heads to be low however, we keep them out of the dirt and have no rocks to speak of in our fields. You can really cover the ground even with a small combine equipped with a stripper header although you do have tall straw to contend with after harvest. We use a loftness shredder to chop up the standing stubble.
