Combines Stripper plate question

Kenc I have always thought the ridges were a good idea. We even cut ours off this year and replaced it with a harder rod so it would last longer. It seems to me that these ridges help hold shelled corn from falling off and then can be pushed up with the trash. I ran my in-laws case and the plates are curved down, this really let the shelled corn fall through. I've never seen any difference from running the plates tight or open except for letting the smaller cobs through. The plates are not very thick, I think if you cut of the ridge the plate wouldn't last very long at all. Kurt
