we start with 1 1_8 in front and 1 1_4 in the rear, keeps cobs and stalks from jambing in the plates...hold your smaller ears to the plates to see how they measure up to the gap...1 1_8 and 1 1_4 is a very universal measurement in all corn heads...slowing down the snapping rolls will help butt shelling problem without plugging up the snapping rolls in higher yielding spots in the field.
