Combines STS Chopper trouble

our goverment wants to legalize wacky weed .thank go.d most of the engining is done in the states . our engineers are goofy enough.they do not need any help desinging any thing worse .maybe it is are 5% beer i do not kwow.

i agree it isn't the best design, at my dealer we usually beef up the pivot areas by welding a thick washer on each side of both pivot areas (chopper pivot and chopper deck pivot) we have never had a chopper fall off in all the STS combines we have sold (over 45 since they first came out) have you had you combine inspected by a dealer latelyIJ did they do any work that could have started this problemIJ

We have had problems with the chopper too. Bearing on the chopper drive went out in first 250 hours but we ran longer before we found it. Now the chopper keeps throwing knifes. Got any ideasIJIJIJIJIJ

I don't know what year your machine is but we had 2-03 9750 this summer and harvestor works put new bearings in the choppers, there was a recall i guess. We had very good lock with our choppers, we had 2-00 with 1800 hours each and put on 900 this summer on the 03's and never had any trouble. loved the way they chop and spread the straw. Andy

There was an update to the chopper bearings on all of the machines, but I believe that there was another recall for the complete rotor on some earlier machines as well. Talk to your dealer, and make them run the serial number.

Yes the dealer did all of the updates including new bearings and a new shaft last winter. Still fell off twice this year. We also put the double heavy washers in on the first fix this year and it only lasted anoter 20 hours before breaking out again.

Does the chopper vibrate at all when runningIJ It should run dead smooth, if not it needs to be balanced at an expericend shop equiped with a balancer machine.

The chopper was balanced last winter and runs very smooth all of the time. We are at a loss trying to understand it. The attachment with only the two bolts looks mickey mouse but not many own up to having any trouble with it.

Got a spreader on our 2003 9750sts because of the problems we heard about the choppers, just got done wheat in ontario and the spreader worked great. The only thing we didn't like when we were looking at getting an sts was the chopper, it looks like a disaster waiting to happen.
