Combines STS IN WHEAT

I did HRS wheat last week, I used the filler plates, I had to to get rid of white caps. The wheat was tough, 17.5% mc. It did an exceptional job!

Make sure you put the filler plates in the second concave, because thats where your return dumps back into the rotor.

We used two sets(4 total) of inserts. The second set really helped to clean the wheat up. Our machine is a corn_soy with round bar concave.

In real hard to thresh wheat, when equiped with round bar concave, we also add cover plate ( custom built ) under the inserts. It help to clean grain sample farther than just adding inserts. We use 2 sets of inserts ( 4 total ) with cover plate on all of them in hard to thresh wheat. I agree with "doubled" regarding the importance of the second set of insert, it really help a lot in comparaison to only 1 set installed.

We run in soft white wheat. For our conditions we do not run any closure plates up front. We have run 8 seperator grate fillers on the left hand side only. Dennis

Depends on the variety of wheat. The STS struggles with harder threshing varieties, hence the need for all the blanking plates and fillers. Rotor just isn't aggressive enough (or threshing section big enough) to cope with tougher crop. The harder-to-thresh varieties in the North can be most difficult with an STS, as the more you close off the open area of the rotor cage, the less capacity you have. But, you have to use what you have so the only general advice I can give is run as few blanking plates or filler as you possibly can while maintaining a tolerable sample. Good luck and safe harvesting.

STS needs dry sample. Does not work as well in wet grain. Set the machine by the book, JD engineers got it pretty close to right with this one. Should turn out a clean enough sample to sow from without recleaning. Give it plenty of air, you won't blow out good wheat and drive fast enough to keep it full. It works best when the rotor starts growling just back out of her a very slight hair. Hope this helps.

Do you have the wheat concaves installed and the seperator covers installed in the grates on the left and right sideIJ This will help.

Try concave covers on position 1 and 2 (first concave section). That keeps the grain in the concave a little longer to provide more thorough threshing and therefor better cleaning. Another cover on position 5 might help further. Always give it plenty of fan speed.
