If it is a new (02) machine, there are a plethora of updates that it has over the 99s and 00s that have helped some of the performance issues. There are of course, tricks for every crop, but as a general rule, start with the book settings and be prepared to make changes from there. Our guys can and do change machine settings several times during the day as conditions change and machine performance is affected. For running recommendations, spare parts. Keep a few of those cast tines handy in the toolbox or buddy seat and replace as soon as you feel rotor out of balance or see one damaged during inspection. Also a few separator grate sections that are also cast (or make sure your dealer has them readily available) should you break a tine. If doing food grade crops (ie edible beans),talk to dealer or JD combine techs about kits for these crops. Good luck.
