Combines STS Pre Cleaner

It is if you are trying to consistently achieve the absolute minimum of %FM, which STS's are notorious for not being able to achieve efficiently. Reason being, the cleaining system, namely the shoe of the STS's, is not capable of effectively cleaning the larger quantities of grain that these two sizes of machines are capable of harvesting. The cleaning show size and stroke (lenth and frequency) are not suitable for the high end capacity of each of these machines. Thus, resulting in the requirement to keep the sieves open more to allow more grain to pass, sacrificing cleanliness. By being able to adjust the pre-cleaner, you will have more opportunity to clean the grain.

could you give an example preferably in wheat..IJ I'm looking for a figure in bushells per hour.. I know this is difficult to say because conditions vary widely. I'd be interested in what you think a 9650 STS can process per hour and do a good job.

I spoke to a owner who owned two machines, a STS and a Cat. He told me the Cat would put out 4000 bushels per hour and the STS would do 3500 bushels per hour. Same field, side by side. He also said that the STS was the better machine when you figured the purchase price to bushel per hour. Just stating what he said to me. Does anyone know if the adjustable pre-cleaner from a 9550 walker machine will fit the STSIJ

A friend of mine has a 1999 demo 9650STS he has run for three years now. I have recently taken delivery on my new 2002 9650STS. This fella stopped in to see the new machine and pointed out the need for a adjustable pre-cleaner and or the pans that cover the plastic fingers behind the pre-cleaner. If you crawl inside and look you will see that there is about a 8 inch gap right under the plastic pre-cleaner fingers allowing material to drop directly into the clean grain auger. This is what is causing dirty grain samples, soybean pods, chaff, broken corn cobs. Not all of the grain goes over the sieve.

Interesting. Is there a JD kit to address this problemIJ Exactly what did your friend do to fix his 99 stsIJ Should a person use solid or perforated material to close the leakIJ I would be interested in hearing what you are going to try. TIA.

I ordered a ajustable pre-cleaner that was bound for Europe or Austrailia for their STS machines. It arrived here as a non ajustable pre-cleaner. The factory put a spot of weld on the adjusting bolt so that when it was shipped out it was non adjustable. The weld was placed for easy access for grinding off and in a spot on the adjusting rod as not interfear with the functioning adjustable pre-cleaner! There is always more then one way to skin a cat! Have not decided what I will run for cover plates to cover the pre-cleaner fingers. I want to experiment with seveal types to see what works the best for me.
