Combines STS sidehill loss

The STS doesn't seem to have any improvements to the side slope capability of the STS shoe compared to CIH or their other 50 series combines. They do have some adjustable dividers between the n1 and n2 augers and between n3 and n4, but these do not seem very effective. They still use the removeable corner chaffer inserts to try to buy some time or distance, but this creates more grain damage and tailings over load. I think the lateral distributor that you are referring to is shown in www.USPTO.gov patent 5,338,257. It would have been a big improvement to the JD side slope grain loss and uneven rotor distribution if they would have used this simple lateral distribution system on their new 50 series combines. They seem to be trying to hide their clean shoe grain losses with the little grain loss sensor holes and pads. Operators should be aware that these holes might bridge over with crop residue and might not give any grain loss monitor performance readings.
