Combines STS Traded on CAT 480

If it was the FIRST STS9750, it wouldn't surprise me at all. Here in SW Ontario, the CAT dealers aren't getting any CAT combines to sell yet, since CAT is concentrating their marketing to the more lucrative markets. I was in Alberta this past summer and witnessed a 9750STS alongside a CAT 480 which was being demonstrated. Both machines were pushing 36' headers and the CAT had a good solid 1_2 to 1 mile per hour over the Deere.

guys i have yet to see any other brand even come close to a green one ! we live in southern IN. and go to the farm progress show and when at it ! CAT told there drive too stay away from the DEERE IJ now why do you think soIJ i know why because it couldn't keep up with a 12 row like the deere had on it ! beside do you want a BUllDOZER or COMBINE IJ and what will it be worth when you resale it IJ CATs add says it is so much heavier and bigger ! but then again who wants that weight on there fields compaction is a big deal down here! hey not trying too make anybody mad just telling you what i see and hear ! happy farming !

Funny, I've seen nothing but the opposite. Use to run 2388's, tested 9750STS's, bought CAT lexion 485's (2). Out of these (CIH + JD) NONE can even come close to matching the CAT with either a twelve row corn, and 30' flex head. When I tested the STS, I found it to be a good machine.....in fact there is lots I liked about it more than my 2388's. But there is no combine anywhere that is capable of outmatching the 480_485 CAT lexion.

I'm sticking with Deere simply because I cannot see the justification in the price difference between Deere and Cat. Yes, CAT may have a little added capacity, but the cost difference far outweighs any benefit, at least in my situation. Besides, I would rather count on my choice of 7 or 8 local Deere dealers as opposed to one CAT dealer.

it's like i said before what do you want a BUllDOZER OR A FINE TUNED MACHINE lIKE A DEEREIJ WHO'S BEEN IN IT lONGERIJ why not just buy a ClAASIJ if you think the CAT IS better they are the same and much cheaper ! but it all boils down too what you want too work on and thats why we love the deere! never have any major trouble and the best qualitygrain possible ! and hey just telling what we see and hear !not trying toomake ya mad ! it's kinda like buying a ford or dodge or chevy ! the CUMMINS is so much BETTER THE OTHERS JUST PlAIN (SUCK) AND THAT IS COMING FROM A CHEVY MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There do seem to be some distinct productivity advantages for the Cat 480 verse the JD STS. The wide feederhouse and Accelerator Preseparation System (APS) provide smoother crop flow and earlier grain separation. The Cat also has an unfair advantage in tough conditions with its parellel concave clearance design and hydraulic overload relief valves. Cat can also change rotor speeds independent of the threshing speeds to match different crop conditions. The larger 3D sieve also gives it a big advantage on any side slopes and the electric sieve adjustments from the cab make it easier to fine tune on the go. Also, it is not fair to compare an STS against a 480 since it has a larger 365 HP engine. The Cat Mobil-tracs available on the 485 reduce groud pressure down around 7 to 12 psi, which is less than any tire combination.

Deerelover; I must say I admire your loyalty to your product(s)......even though your reasons don't make sence. First, CAT are new to combines, and Claas is a major reason. However JD large square balers (100) are made by a company in europe that european farmers wouldn't touch !!. JD planters.....frames etc made by Kinze. Skid steers made by New Holland. Need I go on. Also, just as a point of interest last time I checked DEERE makes bulldozers too !!!. As for the Cummins motor in pick-ups......owned by FORD !!. Ask any of thier engineers and they will tell you in that size the international is a much better engine as far as hp, torque, and fuel efficiancy ! And incase you are wondering, your new chevy diesel in the "HD" series is an Izusu.

I looked real hard at a "Power-stroke" Ford this fall - but finally decided on the Dodge. Boils down to this question - "Would you rather be _______ or stroking"IJ ;-) Ed in MT
