Combines Stupid Question

I've never done it until this year. Had to fold it full out of necessity. Usually idle engine , make sure there isn't too much slack in chain. Haven't broke anything yet. Just be careful and don't forget unload tube is full and start auger with engine at high idle.

I never seem to get just the right amount of grain in the tank to fill the truck so I fold my auger full all the time. Only problem I've seen is when you fold it back out a little grain falls out the end of the auger.

we have a 72 with a turret auger and fold it back all the time.unloading "on the go" we start and stop it with the engine wide open with tube full and never had any trouble with the drives, but have had trouble with the bearing in the elbow going out a couple of times and the vertical auger wearing completly out to our surprise so soon after about4000 acres.

Can be done, but don't make a habit of it. It is extremely hard on the balls_ring, chain and cylinder. I also had to replace one of the support frame bolts after swinging it full. Had the cab door open and heard a POP. Checked and found the front support bolt at the tank had sheared, luckily nothing got bent. Better to pull it in during field work when full, way too much weight hanging out that far for bumps. One came into the dealer sheared off and tank bent from a bump in the field. I do my best to harvest only enough to top off the loads and end with an empty tank and tube.

Yes you can. Just make sure your swivel is in good condition and you keep it greased. Better by far to fold it in full of grain than to have it bouncing around in the field full of grain when it's left out. Also, this is another area where Gleaners with the swing-out unloaders really shine. Once they are in their cradle, they hold all the grain. Turrets will dribble grain. Tom langan

I expect to put my auger in and out with 64 pound wheat in it while crossing a 2 foot ditch without blinking a eye and engaging or disengaging it at full throttle wide open in second gear. Anything less is unaceptible. They do test these things for that don't theyIJ
