Have used the lucky pans without the reel. If conditions are dry with little sticky sap on the stalks they work fairly well. When conditions are bad,you spend lots of time unpluging slots. If your carefull to match reel speed to ground speed you can cut the losses. There is no perfect setup when the seeds shell easily.
