if it fits in, it will be fine. The alt will only build what is needed. Make sure the connectioin from the alt to the starter is good. Most alt failures on combines are due to heat causing the regulator to either shut down in the late models or fail due to heat (read 'fuzz' build up) completely. Cleaning the alt is really important.
We have had alternators completly plugged tight so that the brushes were hung up and not making contact with the commutator. The only way to fix them was to split them apart and clean them out. All internal parts should be able to be purchased seperately at a good auto parts store such as Carquest or Napa. Jason
