When you push the foot pedal you are just moving a valve spool. Dont remember origional converstaion but seems I thought you had a splined power director front hub failure. female splines strippedIJ Bolted to the flywheel is a torque limiter for safety reasons. this powers a drive shaft that turns the hydraulic clutchs and then goes back to drive the pto and hyd pump. The clutch pac grips the shaft with splines. You said something about a grinding soundIJ As you let off the pedal the valve sends oil pumped by the gerotor pump to squeeze via piston the low or high clutch. By you not having any grinding your clutch is not turning the input shaft to the trans. Even a burnt clutch or a malfunctioning one would spin the input. Exploratory surgery will tell.
