Combines tbran RE l4

Well let me put it this way. We actually ordered 2 Diablo l2's. They came in rail. We would not unload them. Maybe that might tell you something. The l4's were better according to some visual warm bodied reports, but as stated previously how Darrel could ever believe he could sell a gleaner outside the company still causes a chuckle. If he had worked through the powers that were of Deutz allis he MIGHT have made a go of it. It is not wise to have a corp exec struggling for sales to see what looks like the combine he is selling appear in a literature slick made by someone he never heard of before. Darrell Swenson (I may not be spelling his name right) had a long series of such ventures _ venues I have been told.

Hey there. What's this all aboutIJ What's an l4 or a Diablo l2IJ I'm thinking this is something that didn't make it into "The Allis Chalmers Story" though I've only started reading the book. Who is Darrell anywayIJ lots of questions here, but I know you guys can straighten me out. Thanks.

Gleaner used to have a plant in Mex. When the company sold the new owners went down and closed the plant for MANY reasons. It was setting idle and was sold. Enterprising Darold Swenson of Minot ND had his heart in the right place but not his lawyer or legal skills. The case would be the same; one could not start marketing a 7720 Deere just because he could find and or buy the parts. look below under l4 post by Dairyman for link on l4's. Very few were made - I may stand to be corrected but I think less than 10. Good idea - wrong market approach.

We had an l4 for 3 or 4 years. We had to work out a few bugs because it wasn't put together very well. The welds were poor, the shaker pan fell out and had to be rewelded, but other than a few tweeks here and there, it ran well. It had plenty of power with the 5.9 cummins and handled a 24 foot header in 40-50 bu wheat fine. We just needed something a little bigger. Over all we were very satisfied with the combine. We could harvest 1300 - 1500 acres with out adding oil or a single breakdown. It was nice to run. just my opinion
