Combines Thirsty 9550

It is the Tier II engine. They are burning up to 50% more fuel but produce 10% less horse power. Holds true to almost all of them. Deere is meeting EPA emmision standards. Nope they won't smoke. Smoke is bad......visible pollution. How can a motor that burns twice the fuel while meeting emmision laws be better for the enviroment. I don't get it. Burning two gallons of fuel is cleaner then burning oneIJ It develops less HP so is not as efficent in acres a hour which leads to even more fuel being burned. I think some of the people who think this stuff up are so smart they are stupid.

Throw another six rows or 15 ft. more on front of her and spread the extra 50% fuel consumption over 50% more acres covered.

Just how is a 9550 going to do much more than a 9500 if they are setup equallyIJ I'll keep my 8820 thank you.

not all engines are losing horsepower or burning more fuel, just deere

A few reasons it burns more fuel. First of all it isn't a tier two engine, tier two on 2002 production machines only applies to 300 hp and above, tier two for 300 and below in a couple of years. Yes emissions is partly why it burns more fuel. NOX emissions had to be reduced on the 9550 as it did on 8X10 series tractors, they did this by retarding injection pump timing, which makes the engine weaker, so the fuel delivery is increased to compensate. Plus depending on the year of your 9500 your 9550 may have a larger engine (7.6 vs. 8.1) and bottom line the 9550 has more power, and unfornately it takes fuel to make power.
