Good question that I hadnt thought of before. Around here, a combine has been a luxury that we bought only when we couldnt get a custom cutter. The first new one, an M2, was an emergency purchase when the custom guys engine died from neglect. Over the years, we upgraded when custom cutters werent available and we werent able to get the crop out of the field with the machine(s) we had, before the first snowstorm blew in.

Bought a new l2 in '78. Bought a used R60 in 2000. I don't feel that I can even consider a new machine anymore. Yet, we are farming almost 3 times as much as we were in 1978. I often wonder how many people in the crowd are potential buyers of the new ones at the farm shows.
