Combines threshing cylinder filler plates

In our area, at least, we have operators remove filler plates since they will contribute to crushing of cobs, and prevent the face of the cylinder bar from assisting in feeding. With these removed, cylinder speed doesn't need to be as fast because the cylinder is more aggressive. The few ears of corn which enter the cylinder will mostly drop right back out. Also any ears which get inside there will help to clean dirt and debris off the backside of the cylinder bars and the cylinder remains in balance better. Hope this makes sense.

I probably didn't make myself clear. The filler plates that don't work are the ones that are raised to be the same diameter as the rasp bars. The trash is just not pulled through. It reduces through put, increases load,and increases grain damage. It makes maybe 1-1.5 mph difference in soybeans.

You're correct about that type of filler bar -- they're tall enough that they compress material into a mat and then the cylinder bar teeth have trouble pulling stuff thru. Also requires tighter concave setting for thresh because trash has to be forced thru the concave instead of remaining loose for separation. With the other fillers, some of this is also prevalent, but not as bad.
