Might check the rod that runs through the shoe drive arms. There are nuts on both ends. If they get loose, the rod can hit against the frame. You should be able to see a place on the frame where the paint will be knocked off, and the metal may look like you took a hammer to it. When I first bought my 'l', I broke two of these rods the first year. They would hammer like that for a little bit, then break. I finally took off the shoe drive arms and laid them next to each other. Discovered that they were different lengths! Everytime the shoe moved, the rod was twisted. Replaced one drive arm to match the other, and haven't had trouble since. I do, however, check those nuts every now and then. Hope this helps you find the problem. Gleanerpilot
