I got the idea they weren't actually attempting to copy a combine, but rather the essence of its cutting and gathering system--a mowing machine. Given loose belts, rusty parts and poor construction, I can see the value of green wheat because a dry, ripe crop would be an obvious fire hazard. I think the producers knew that. Still, the only thing funnier would have been Monty Python doing it!

If it's the same one that i saw it was made here in the UK, I think they were supposed to be making a harvester to cut wholecrop wheat. The idea then would be to put it through a forage harvester.
