I have heard of this happening and the only thing we have figured out is that it always seems to happen with slow cylinder speeds in corn.

You might consider installing the upper chain shaft out of a R75, it is a bigger diameter shaft and the right hand bearing is larger also and they did away with the slip clutch on that shaft. The sprokets are also larger so you will need to replace them also but it should be a much better unit. Good luck!

How'd you manage to get by this longIJ Ours broke the first season we had it. The dealer put in the shaft and bearings from an R72. That hasn't given any problem since.

So here we go in circles again. I am all for a bigger shaft and bearing. But no slip clutchIJ Thats how the N-6;s were. Better stock up on belts!

Someone snowballed you. The shaft is the same wether its a 62 or 72. You just lucked out on not having it break yet. Maybe you got one that was hardend correctly as they were messing around with hardening to fix this problem.

In the earlier models there was a difference as when they changed to the cummins on the 72s they found that the increase was too much for that shaft. Agco sent us the bigger shaft kit and paid for it to be fitted. john

Yeah right guys! Busted one on my '96 72. Spun the pulley and about 2to3 inches off the end of the shaft in 12 bag wheat crop a year ago. Replaced chains and sprockets shaft and bearings, back going two days later. Should not have occurred. Parts and labour were the least significant cost.

You were snow balled too! If they made a change it was changed in both combines. The 62's broke as much as the 72's.

Don't know about being snowballed in this drought affected area but Agco sent the kit to us and there was more to it than just the shaft kit and payed to get it fitted. As for the shaft that came out another custom harvester used it in his older 72 and as far as I know it's still working. At least Agco in this case didn't forget about the machine the second it was out the door of the factory. john
