Omaha is 150 miles from Grand Island. The Stuhr Museum of the Prarie Pioneer is located in GI on US 281. Also the great Archway over I-80 is about 40 miles west of there. Don't know the names of specific motels_hotels there, but there are several out on US 281 which is the highway on which the CNH plant is located. There also are several eateries from McDonalds to sit downs out along 281. There is a great eatery over in York, NE called Chances R. That would be roughly 60 miles over though. HTH

Grand Island offers a variety of good eating establishments. On 281 North, on the west side is Whiskey Creek Steak House(one of my favorites) and Applebees among other chain places. On the east side of 281 is Perkins, Country Kitchen, and others. There is a great sports bar on the north side of the Conestoga Mall that serves good food and is a fun place called Balz Sports Bar and Cafe. Across the street east is a good Mexican restaurant called El Toro. Downtown on Third street is The Chicken Coop. Kind of a sports bar atmosphere with good food. Around the corner to the west is Nathan Detroit's, also a nice bar with good food. A word of caution, do not go north across the tracks to Fourth Street, especially at night. Not a good area to be in! On South locust are several bars and places to eat. Texas T-Bone is a great place to eat. There are also quite a few Chineese restaurants in town if you desire. Nightly entertainment is not too great during the week. There are several clubs around town, but the Desert Rose on South locust is about the best for country music. There are motels at the I-80 interchange, but I think that I would stay at one of several north or east of the combine plant. A few miles north is a Days Inn, Comfort Inn, and Sleep Inn. Or on South locust east of the plant is a Holiday Inn, Regency Inn, and Howard Johnson. H. Johnson hosts a lot of conventions. It has a great restaurant, pool, and a nice lounge. It would also be real easy to get back and forth from the plant. There are others in town, but you are on your own there. If you need any more info, feel free to email me at striker782@excite.com

Dont forget Pioneer Village in Minden NE which is about 40-50 miles southwest. It has hundreds of thousands of pieces of antique farm machinery not to mention antique autos and numerous other technology marvels. Herald Warp began collecting these antiques pieces of equipment in the early 1900's until he died. Really worth you time probably cost about $10 to get in.
