Combines TR 96

It's not hard to change the clean grain elevator bearings. They sometimes get extra wear if you inadvertantly over tighten the chain. I usually check that by feeling of the lower bearing a litte while after you have tightned the chain. I know of some custom operators that have added a larger fuel tank, or added an additional one. The TR-99 has a 125 galln tank where you TR-96 has only a 100 gallon I think. The TR-99 with it's genesis engine uses less fuel than your Ford engine. We very, very seldom have to refuel if we fll in the morning.

Auxiliary tank: 40 gal tank made by RR Hopper Cover and Extension, from Westlock Alberta,Canada. Phone 780-307-9171. This unit sits on the step below the radiator, can be easily built as long as you keep the top of both tanks level!

I think you are making a much better decision by upgrading to TR-96 thinking. I like the Ford engine in the 96's. It's very fuel efficient and reliable. The rotor configuraton is improved, the, concave extension is set up better, The terrain tracer is way ahead of other makes, and the controls like the hydro control, header height, reel speed, reel height etc are all very simple and convenient. The feeder house can be easily tilted forward and back as needed. Grain tank extensions make 300 bu capacity. I have always liked the simplicity of The unloading auger. The bubble up augerdrives are a problem in early 96's, but updates are on many of them. The newer you get the more improvements. TR-96's usually are dirt cheap. Maintenance is usually very reasonable. When you buy an old TR-95 you usually are better off knowing where some junkers are because if you ever have a major component go down you need a source of cheep repairs.

To answer the latest question, TERRAIN TRACER is an option for TR96's, as was lateral tilt on the feeder house. Also hyd reel fore_aft is an option. These 3 options can be installed on the combine if not equipped. Some things to look for on a TR96 combine are rear axle king pins and bushings seized, rubber peeling off of smooth roll in NEW HOllAND chopper, shaker shoe hangers welded, replaced (can be an indication of a improperly timed shoe),cleaning fan drive shaft (eccentric shaft) worn out (can be updated to same as TR99 - not a big deal),bent H-frame, vibrating rotors, leaking rotor gearboxes, bent beater grate, bubble up auger drive should be updated to same as TR98, then will last forever, engine fan bearings and fan idler bearings, electronic stone trap working properly, cracked feeder house front drum, rear sidewalls of combine cracked_broken out (caused by an improperly balanced chopper),field light updates(not a big deal),return auger slip clutch bearing holder made heavier, thresher clutch bearings noisey. I am not trying to make these combines look bad, just simply pointing out some things to look for on them. TR96 through TR99 are probably the most efficient, reliable, overall best combines on the market. This statement is true if the combine has been properly, and regularly maintained (as is with ANY combine). The beauty of the TR combine is it's inability to throw grain out the back end, and yet produce such a excellent quality sample in the grain tank. I am not trying to praise these combines either, just stating my opinions.
