Combines tractor question

It could be. I had a White 8510 (traded it in for a Deere 9400T this past week) and i have a Massey 8280 wich both have_had problems with the trans. Wouldnt suprize me if Agco didnt do anything to get the trans. to work better in the past 8 years, my friend larry got rid of his White 6175 because the trans. didnt feel right to him compared to the other tractors. He felt like it would die on him soon so he traded for a Case IH MX220.

An 8550 is an AllIS-CHAlMERS articulated 4WD tractor and has absolutely nothing in common with todays AGCO tractors...

I can't see how it would have anything to do with the transmission. My guess would be a problem with the fuel system -- a supply hose collapsing_pinched maybeIJ When you stall a hot engine it sometimes won't crank. I would lean toward some type of vapor lock or fuel problem. Do you just wait a while and then the starter works again or do you have to manually turn the engine over to get it to freely turn over with the starterIJ If you're pushing the foot clutch when starting (and it's releasing properly) the engine should turn over regardless of transmission condition. You might try your question at allischalmers.com, also. Good luck.

Did you look as close of possible at the cylinder walls when you were in there. Could be piston scored and is seizing up. Were you pulling when it stalledIJ Was there a bunch of smoke from blowby tube or a bunch of fresh looking oil that had come from tube latelyIJ No one has put an electric on off control for fuel pump on it have theyIJ I think the engine would overpower any failing bearing that would be turning from flywheel rearward when the clutch is depressed so I'm doubting drivetrain. Be sure to let us know if steping in the clutch will prevent stalling or any more info may help. Good luck.

My father was disking with the tractor when it first stalled. He said that it suddenly lost power and when it cut off, there was a large ball of white smoke around the engine. I assume that it came from the blow-by tube. The tractor cut off twice more while trying to get it out of the field. Neither time did I notice any smoke. The engine also cut off even w_ the clutch depressed. I didn't notice anything on the cylinder walls but when I removed the pan, I noticed that burnt smell like when a bearing freezes up.

Had a problem similar two years ago. Stalled out under low speed lug the first time out. Started 30 minutes later. Happened again at the end of the spring. Ran good in between and thru the fall.See the posting "Smoke and mirrors-well mostly smoke" about this time last yearIJ if still available. Upshot of the whole deal is: 1) there is a bushing on the timing advance in the fuel pump that was seized even though pump was checked and tested good 3 times--there is an update for this problem; 2)pulled the engine down and found 2 broken rings, all ring grooves badly worn, 1 liner moving vertically enough to let small amounts of coolant into the cylinder causing pitting of the head and valves, 2 cracked valve seats. Was able to save the head. Net result was on inframe overhaul. Expensive, Yeah, but probably saved the engine for the next year. This was a 426 @ 5500 hours. Pull the head and check inside or at least do a compression test. BTW, most of the smoke is gone. Good luck on this one. Rob.

I think Nobul is talking about the high output 426 or later known as 670 with the Ambach or Roosa Master pump. If you had a cloud of smoke under tractor it must of come from blowby tube. I would be quite sure you melted down a piston which stuck it until it cooled down. I would think there is just a tiny chance of it being a cam bushing. Make sure you install a fresh set of injector tips and engine runs up to normal operating temp. Good luck.
