Why wouldnt your father inlaw go with the gleaner if he's seen your perform. Around here I cant think of anybody that runs a 1990 or newer gleaner there is the odd l series still going. People that had them had to pretty much give them away when trading. We run a 8680 mf which will go down the road this year for a 2388 case.

The closest dealer for him is 4 hours away. The cat and massey dealer are only 30 min away. Colin

I believe service is the key when buying any piece of machinery. We happen to have a dealer with outstanding parts and service within 25 miles of us. They handle Caseih parts and the mechanics are tremendous. Get to know your local people that work on these machines and you have the inside track on the updates and the best way to incorperate them into your new combine. We have run several years with a fella with a R62, and he goes round for round with us in any condition. They hardly grease anything on their machine whereas we spend a good 5-10 minutes greasing ours per day. Niether one of us have had any serious breakdowns that have taken more than an hour or so to get fixed up. Good luck on your decision By the way, for the record, GO RED!

The gleaner (hyperized) will have more capacity than the 88. The R series gleaners are reliable combines. If you trade, you better buy what is popular in your area; otherwise, plan on taking a financial hit.

If gleaners don't break down as you claim, what does it matter if the dealer is four hours awayIJ

I did not say they don't break down. My father in law likes to shop at home, and he is not the one to travel. My dad owns a 79 N6 and he has his problems. My 98 R72's were giving me trouble my last year i had them. My 2001 have been very great, i hope my R75's give me the trouble free use that my 72 did. My father in law's 2188 were great machines he did not have much trouble, this 23 gave him trouble all the time. Thanks for your time. Colin
