That transmision if done right will go 10000 hours if its had the updates. You would be better off to have it done right than buy a used one. I do know of one but all keep my eye open. You can call me at 1 509 520 5474 Steve

Just how many updates were availableIJ I know when I had ours out several of the snap rings were superceded by new numbers. What else should have been changed when we had it out and apartIJ

The snap rings are a big part of the improvements and are the cause of alot of problems. The snap ring next to 2nd gear is changed to a one piece and on the front of the counter shaft. The dealer in north Dakota and my dealer in lewiston, Idaho makes a keeper that goes around the snap on low clutch pack. This keeps that snap ring in place and that was a big problem. Always make sure you put the bigger lube pump on even if you don't drill out the oriffice to put more oil to the clutch. Make sure all spacers and parts are installed right and time is taken to set all bearing pre load BY THE BOOK.I do not think there are alot of people who know how to do it right. Interstate Equipment in Fergus Falls North Dakota or Diesel and Machine in lewiston Idaho know what to do.And I NEVER down shift the power shift in road gear at high speed. Have two 4880's with over 10000 hours of time on the transmisions.

Okay well that information is very helpful thank you! now i need something clarified-- you say the dealer in Fergus Falls North DakotaIJ this I have never heard of-- but there is a dealer by the name of Interstate in Fergus Falls Minnesota, that must be the one you mean is this trueIJ-- we also have a 4840 with somewhere around 8000 hours and we use them both the same and the same maintenance same drivers and have never had a problem with transmission yet and no we dont use powershift when slowing down, we dont think they are made for acting as a break to slow tractor down we think they are made to be used under a load, we never use powershift in reverse either, anyway we will see what we get into, I think the first thing we need to do is check the pressure it has I believe there is a gauge they use to do this, and see what amount of pressure it has and go from there, thanks again.

It could be Minnesota I will have to check and see. They have a test stand to check out the transmission after they go through it.Some guys around have sent there transmission to Interstate and have had good luck.I have done 6 transmissions and still have to think about what I am doing. I have fixed up 5 of theses tractors and sold them still run two. What is wrong with your transmissionIJ good luck

Interstate Equipment is a little across the border in Northwestern Minnesota. Were White and MF dealers and still handle MF though most of their business is John Deere it seems. Here is an address for their website. http:__www.interstateinc.com_

my transmission is difficult to get into 2nd gear and when you go down road it sometimes slows down and speeds up similiar to slowing down and speding up using power shift

Your snap ring on second gear came off, check your filter on the right side it is a suction filter see whats in it. You can replace it with another two piece snap ring through the side cover and that could get you by awhile. let me know whats in the filter and we can talk.
