Combines Trash Buildup in Shoe

Yes we have the same thing happen I think the fodder come through the hole by the hydro Have always thought of screeing that area off but never have done it . Tim

Duct tape does a good job of sealing those gaps in sheet metal if you dont mind the appearance of it.

Happens here some years in wheat also. The way we're set up, we dump 4 loads on the fly and I take off for the auger. I'm usually about 5 minutes late coming back so that gives the operator time to clean out the shoe and check over the combine, attend to nature's call, etc. I think some comes in high on the side where the rock door trips also. Don't think I'd get too carried away with screens though, as they could plug too unless you turned the seperator off once in a while. Ed in Montana

Yes I had this problem on a R65.To solve it I removed 1 row of fins on back of chaffer. Now the trash passes right on throw.You may need to remove more than one just have to try it.Agco has sent a paper out about this .If you need a copy of Agco's paper let me know.

We screened the hydro hole once, it works good but you have to remember the Gleaner consumes a huge volume of air. The screen will get plugged with leaves and decrease your air flow. I think agcos theory of removing the fins may be worth a try, you want to keep the air going full force or you will have problems on down the line.

What do you mean mind the appearance of it, it's gleaner weld it is great looking the sign of an experenced combine. HA HA P.S. Yes I do have some on my gleaner

You are right if you can shut off the seperator once in a while the leaves will fall off and you won't have nearly as much trash build up in the back. Taking out a row or two of fingers sounds like it would help but the screens are still filling up and reducing air flow. May have to duct air from higher up on next design. We have had that problem on every combine from the F2 on, I think because of the amount of air we can move. I closed up the sides on the l2 with screen but then I ran out of air when the side screens plugged. Stopping the separator does help.

We've sealed up suction side of fan like some others here with fine results. I've seen bullitin lighning talks about and that seems like good plan to allow leafs that do get in to get out. Rotary screen stalling can also be cured. Have a look at combine engine bulliton 0037A and 0040 when you get to dealership. Them bullitons along with school material covers some simply things to keep rotary screen working. All or any improvements have been installed in the last couple two or three years but adjustment needs to be checked if you are having any trouble at all in wind conditions. If you have these improvement and everything is adjusted per bullitons and you still have trouble let me know. We got more carried away than company did to cure this problem but the kits they come with should be sufficient as long as things are in adjustment. Good luck

Have you ever watched machine come to the end of the field on long rows, shut the seperator off, and seen the leaves and shucks fall off the bottom screenIJ I sometimes think they need a way to keep this screen clear for better air intake. We sometimes have rotory screen plugging problems too. Sometimes it helps to keep the rotory screen next to the harvested rows.
