John, You need to unlock the varible so the large head pins can come threw the holes in lock plate. The prior 1989.5 machines use the reel speed switch and eff. 1989.5 machines use the reel lift switch. Reel lift hose has to be hooked to the male tip that is pointed down under the cab on the eff. machines. Good luck. Dan
