Combines Truth about new CIH Combines

bmoney, We shall see if all of your "seuth-saying" comes to pass after this year's farm shows have culminated. I would not hold my breath until 2005 before the new New Holland "CR" (Twin Rotor) is unveiled (already occured last year in Chicago) and released. However, I do think it will be a couple two to three years before we see the new CIH Axial Rotor. But, don't discount the possibility of a slight bump in horsepower, for the 2388, when is comes sporting its new rotor this year.

I would be very surprised if Nh waits until 2005 for anew machine. Their plans are to start field demoing it in 2001. Should be able to order early in 2002. As far as I know no one knows for sure about the market penetration of each company. JD does not tell CNH and Agco does not tell JD about units sold. This is most likely a very close estimate, but not fact.

If CIH is such a weak player, why have they taken 43% of the 2001 high hp 2wd tractor sales, and the STX has taken 45% of the 4wd tractor marketIJ These numbers are a FACT as of June for new tractor sales. Also CIH has it's factory running at full capacity in the MFD, STX, and Combine. I think deere is laying off around 5000 people and has it factory shut down for the 2nd or 3rd time this year. I think the new combine may be introduced to the public fairly soon, however it may be awhile until they start selling them. The whole sticking point as I see it is how fast they can shut down the combine plant here in East Moline and transfer production to Nebraska. The contract with the union runs until 2004 and they don't seem willing to break off the contract and allow their plant to be shut down. However once they are no longer being forced to make 23xx combines by the union contract they will then start making and selling their new combine. I think CNH is smart enough to not have competing Case IH combines on the market at the same time.

bmoney, I did some looking at production ns for CaseIH combines and come up with some different ns than what you did. First off, 2001 model year is only a little over half done, so I don't know if anybody's numbers are correct and accurate as they would be changing daily as far as combine sales. However, I looked up production ns of Case combines from 2000 model year. According to Case serialn records, Case IH produced 2119 combines (not including 2344s) last year for the North American market(1332 of the 2388s, 787 of the 2366s). European and overseas-built combines have their own serial ns and are not figured in these ns. That being said, if Case only had 16% market share, Deere would have sold almost 7000 combines last year. I find that difficult to believe when the industry as a whole reported a little over 5000 units total. My source for these ns can be found at any CaseIH dealer in the US-its a service bulletin dealing with 2000 model year combines. Another thing, according to the latest CaseIH Farm Forum, there have been more Axial-Flows sold this year than at the same time last year. As far as the planter, the last I knew they were working on a 1200ASM planter with a Case(ala Flexi-Coil) air cart behind it to feed the row units. I have no idea how work is progressing on it by now.

I never said that they are a weak player, but I guess the numbers suggest that. Tractor sales per quarter don't mean a whole lot. I don't know where you've gotten your numbers, but I'll guarantee Deere's are higher for the year. And, if you can read it correctly, Deere is offering early retirement (aka laying off) 1200 people because they are going away from their local branches to a centralized marketing center. Most of these people are so-called higher-ups that are ready to retire. Another fact you are not correct on...the factory shutdowns are union mandated or Deere is a smart enough company not to keep producing combines and_or tractors to fill their dealers' lots. I know our dealer routinely has carry-over combines and still has several 8900 Series magnums on his lot. That's just crazy.

And it's a shame that the numbers come out like they do, because the Case (and probably Gleaner)combines are just simply superior machines to the Deere. I run a 9600 and 9610, but for a three year period was part of an RandD project with Case, so I was around lots of 21 and 23 series combines. Quieter cabs, smoother running, better reliablilty, easier service, and much better grain quality were all characteristics of the axial flows. Why do I still run DeereIJ It's because Deere's dealer network and service support are far superior. I can't afford to wait for days on parts for a Case from my small local Case IH dealer. If Case and AGCO could build dealer networks like Deere has, look out, because then the inferior quality of the green equipment would finally show.

The truth is your comments are designed to discourage CIH and other brand equipment owners. I don't know if your numbers are correct or not but I do feel they are self serving since I believe you are "involved" with DeereIJ Surely Deere is a large company. They seem to buy some other company every day including a bank. Maybe they should rethink their "Goliath" lookIJ

Ten years ago I was running a Deere combine and a gear in one of the gearboxes on the cornhead went out. I went to the dealer and they did not have one so they went to order one and found out that they were on factory back-order and it would be 2 weeks to get one. So I asked them if they could check to see if another dealer would have one. They said they didn't have time but they had a list of dealer phone numbers if I wanted to. I got in my truck and drove next door to the Case_IH dealer. I was in a red combine the next day and have never been dissatisfied with the machines, service or parts availability. looking back I sure am glad they didn't have the time for me that day.
