Make sure it has been set up properly, as it sounds like dealer isn't very experienced. There should be 4 reverse bars on rotor; 2 in last row and 2 in second to last row. The chrome rasp bars and rough concaves are what is giving you the crackage. It is best to run beans through a new Gleaner first to get the roughness worn down. So that will go away. You mentioned taking out half the bars. Many times this seems to help the cob situation so I would definitely try it.
