Put two 6 rows together back in 1981. If we would ever make another 12row I would just add rows to each side of the 8 row.. Making the throat area is alot more work than it looks.

Building a 12 row from parts is not that difficult mathematically, but really depends on your level of expertise and shop equipment available. I have built a couple for my own use. The single most important factor is to have the toolbar absolutely straight. The hex drive shaft must slide in relatively freely. It can not bind during operation. Also that hex shaft should come from a head of like row spacing. The gear box engagement areas of hex are heat treated. Plain cold drawn 1-1_8 hex will work for a while ......... Your best bet is to order new drive shaft from parts. One other area of importance is the frame braces added to larger frames. The exact location is not that critical [must not interfere with drives or shields], but to have them fully welded to frame as the braces absorb the vertical and horizontal forces as head goes thru the field. If need hints on auger splice ask question on forum. This cornhead project is not that difficult, and you can save $$$. Good luck!

This would be a winter project. I'm pretty good at the shop stuff so I don't think that will be a problem. The only thing I did not know about was the frame and how to go about doing that. I don't know what a frame looks like on a 12 row because most of the heads here are 8 row 38". I am going to put this head on a 9790 Massey. We'll see how it does this year before I go and cut up a good 843. Maybe trading it for a Gleaner head before its all over and done with.

You'd be better modifying a 844 frame instead of a 843. 844's were for 36" and 38" rows and is more similar to a 1243 frame.
