Combines turret unloader help needed

I did not put any jam nut inside or out only lock washers on outside. Just equal solid spacers inside between big elbow and gear box. It is hard to get the spacers exact so I used some thin shim washers to get a tight fit.The bearing going out to the horizontal unload auger is the only bearing that goes out on me now(about every 400 sep hours). Never had trouble breaking housing just 7_8 bolts. .

We have only one that has run in this area for any amount of time. We took it apart at 800 hour for flighting was getting worn near elbow of vertical auger. This machine had unloaded alot of dirty edible beans. We found bottom vertical auger bearing failing and seal was no longer holding out dirt on at least one of the gearbox bearings. We drilled hole next to bearing holder to help prevent moisture from sitting in that area. We made a better clean out slot just below vertical auger flighting. This was in hopes the guys would open up if caught with moisture in hopper. Existing cleanouts seam to just remain packed tight with moldy grain. We welded on a second piece of the heavy flighting at top of vertical auger to get twice the length of heavy flighting where most of the wear takes place. We drilled and tapped gearbox for grease nipple and noted on cover to grease box regularly. This machine was new enough to have the heavy 7_8" bolts holding gearbox and we were sure to get the jam nuts nearly as tight as a 7_8" nut requires. Marshaltown Farms idea with the spacers is a more sure fire way to be sure box is held secure. I'd guess your failure started with box twisting and breaking threaded area which would put tremendous pressure on bearings tring to hold it straight. I'd guess you would want pipe that holds flighting tucked up as tight to seal area as possible. Thrust from vertical auger is supported on bottom bearing and I would see nothing wrong with washer at top to close up gap to prevent seeds from grinding into seal. The trust on horizontal auger should be supported by needle bearing and thrust washer out at discharge. While holding auger against thrust washer I would check gap at box. If room for washer to close up gap I would install one. I suppose the turret machine around hear has nearly another 800 hours by now so we best check it out again. Best of luck
