Combines Two Speed

You would need a 2 speed hydro motor, a control valve, and a switch or 2 in the cab. a 2-speed hydro is basicly a hydro pump converted to a motor - when you flip the switch, the swash plate moves to a different angle, resulting in a speed change. New parts (in round n's) 2 speed hydro motor = $2700 Control valve assembly = $1600 Switches and misc = $100 from what the parts book shows, the hydro pressure hoses are the same between the single speed and the 2 speed motors. my suggestion would be to check salvage yards for a burned combine with a 2 speed in it, and get the motor and valve there. another alternative would be to install a mud hog - when you turn it on, you slow down, because the hydro oil volume is split between 3 motors instead of one. if youre looking for more speed, this won't help.....

PC, Something you might keep in mind is a two speed only runs in high when the hydro system presure is low enough. Soft ground or hills (hard pulling) cause it to revert to low speed automatically. For safety and_or flow rate limits of rear wheels, it's locked out when in 3rd gear(transmission). AWD_high and 2wd_low are about the same speed. You may try a hydro repair shop. They may swap you out and save some $$$.

Thank you both for the input. The RWA would be more useful to me with a 2 speed. Top speed engaged is 5.2 mph. If I could get up to 7 mph with a 2 speed I would be happy. I think I'll check into it further.
