I can try, but as I said you can't see it and a photo might not help much. Just open the door besides the cab door. You get to look at a gear box, that has a screwed in dipstick, that you need to check once in a while anyway. The gear box has one input shaft from the back and two output shafts to either side, what is actually one shaft namely the primary countershaft. looking at the gear box you see the electric feeder house clutch to YOUR right hand (left side of the combine of course). Now stick your hand in between the gear box and the feeder house clutch and feel around that shaft. You should find the grease zerk, that is rotating with the shaft. Ralf

Dakota, Where does the grease from this zerk go toIJ Is it for the electric clutch when not engagedIJ How often should it be greasedIJ Is it found on 9610's and 9600"s as wellIJ Can't believe that Deere didn't put out a bulletin on this before. I remember that zerk that was on the back of the variable speed cylinder drive on the old 8820's. Same story, not in the maintainance section of the book. Asked the JD combine guru about it, and was told that it was for factory assembly of the drive. I greased it lots anyway.

Yes, that zerk you mentioned is still not on the diagram stickers either and we grease it daily. The one I described greases the spline of the primary countershaft which goes through this gear box. I have never checked a 9600 for it. Ralf

We have a 2003 WTS with stickers of 2002 on the machine. They updated the model and skipped some zerks.

dakota, Went on the JD parts site and looked at a diagram of the countershaft on a 9650W. I found it, but it does not appear on 9610 or 9600 diagrams. I'm on my way out to check my 9610 right now just in case. How often do you grease that mystery zerkIJ Rosco

You don't suppose there is another one on the other output side, or are there only one set of splinesIJ I wonder about the 9500'sIJ GS

When it comes to greasing, I have a totally different opinion than the manual. I grease almost every grease zerk daily (after a long day). That way I don't forget anything and don't have to count hours. The big bearings get two pumps, the little ones one pump, the variable speed sheaves at least 5 pumps and the walkers as much as they need to get full, what is 40 pumps on my grease gun. The grease zerk on the unloader ellbow and on the propeller shaft, I grease, when I change engine oil, because they're harder to get to. With this schedule things have lastet pretty good. This particular one we're talking about here would fall in my daily list - one pump or two.
