When that stub shaft broke did it fold back the flighting on the front augerIJ If it did not consider yourself lucky. I broke several of them on my 1688s. Case finally came out with an update to let that shaft float in there. I'll bet that your shaft got rusty and froze in one place and that made it act just like the old ones that used to be welded in on one end. And it broke! K.A.

YES, it indeed folded back the 1st section of auger. YES the hex shaft was froze in the outer section of auger. I couldn't believe the shaft broke. you make it sound like a common problem.

When I had 1688s I broke three shafts in one year. I'ld say that's pretty common. In five years I've never broken one on the 2188s or 2388s so they did make an improvement. When you put that back together you might put some anti-seize on both ends of the shaft. Good luck! K.A.
