Yes you can adjust out some of the slack with the three bolts. I leave some slack in it so there is less strain on the collar and the cradle is carrying the tube. Yes there is a dent where tube hits cradle, but it has not gotten worse.

Be sure cylinder is stroked out all the way when taking slack out of chain. I would usually have auger in saddle and then hit in button while in auto swing mode. When you get down to ground you should note that bottom run of chain is note tight and tring to pull auger hard into saddle. Otherwise you should check that an orfice hasn't come loose in valve body, there should be one under both hose fittings at valve body. Also I believe all R52s had end of stoke dampened going both ways. That is controled within cylinder. I know there was a hydralic bulliton in early '90s on that and don't remember if it was for R50s or 52s. That last little drop onto saddle should definitly be cushioned.
