Combines Unloading Auger Turrent

I have taken the horizontal unloader off with a front end loader all by myself. The vertical auger is usually seized to the gearbox. On the 1688 we pured lots of penetrating oil into the vertical unloader and let it sit for as long as three days, trying to pull on it with the front end loader from time to time. When you put it back together don't forget to put lots of antiseize around the splines.

another easy way to get the horizontal auger off is to take come-a-longs to the rafters in your shed. make sure you attach it so you can move the combine out of the way.

If you have a fork lift or a fork lift attachment for your loader, you can use a pallet and the foam packing a new tube is packed in the box with. The foam packing is in the shape of the tube so it cushions the auger tube and keeps it from rolling. I replaced the auger tubes, elbow and the tube in the grain tank. If the rivets in the tube in the grain tank are thin I would replace that also. My dealer said if those rivets or the rivets in the elbow let go the whole unloading auger comes down which is not a pretty site. My gearbox on a 2166 slipped rite out. Hope this helps Good luck

it's not that hard of a job to get that gearbox out of the turrent. the gear box has a splined shaft that slides into the vetical auger. you must turn the gearbox 90 degrees and then it will lift out. it will be a tight fit when reinstalling the gear box. make sure you use a dead blow or a 2x4 so you do not damage or bend the gear box. also ensure that you time your horizontal auger to your vetical auger when reinstalling. this is easily done if you split your horizontal auger into the 2 pieces as you take it apart. hope this helps you some.
