Combines unloading augers

I believe the augers are removed out the left side of the machine. There is a cover behind the drive sprockets and then there is an opening to rotate them out. ...By the way I will look it up on my old 3.1 windows CD parts listing and may have to write back...JWK

Thanks for the info. Was a nice day so I went ahead and did it today. Not a bad job. Hardest part was getting the old bearings off the right side.

You may want to look at chain replacement also. By the way take a look under the access cover on the top "elbow" and check to make sure the cotter key is still in good condition. Don't like to see this come out and make more repair. My 1660 also has a grease fitting in that corner drive. Have a another good day. Jack

It is definitly worth hardfacing the vertical unloader. We do it all the time. The horizontal and the cross augers I have only seen worn out in lots of soy beans, because of the dirt, that goes through. Typically the floor under the cross augers on the left side wears through before the auger is junk. When you notice the first hole, it is time to rebuilt the cross auger ends.

Check out Abilene machine,in Kansas which sells loewen combine parts. They carry augers with the super edge flighting, which DO last longer than OEM. and for about half the price in some cases. I Usually hardface the vertical and about the first two rounds of the horizontal. As for the trough, the superedge flighting will do just fine.

forget the expensive hard surfacing..just weld a 1_4" rod around the outer edge no wider than original diameter of flighting. Will outwear anything else. Weld on inside of radius not on outside. GS
