Thanks for the info. Good luck on putting the place back together after your loss, Corn was a bigger problem for us this year. The light fluffy stuff built up a huge mound on the corn head and wasnt heavy enough to fall into the auger. It was a new experience to go an entire round and not see the dividers until reaching the other end of the field. Tom in MN

I looked at a R52 that had two 18-24" pieces of used no. 50 chain bolted to the outside of the cage. He said it worked. We had similar conditions in KS. Beans died from drought 30 days early left all the leaves on.

we tried that , no worky worky, tried grate cover asme results. Bear ain't it.

Rain doesn't take care of those leavesIJ Or is the fact that you don't get any rain the problemIJ Just curious, Rain here will knock the leaves off and knock the dust down too (really helps). Curt

I was having fits trying to chisel corn stubble until we had .2 of rain. That was enough to make corn leaves flow through the chisel plow. The neighbor said that rain also made combining a lot easier for him. Tom in MN

Was this problem on R50's onlyIJ Were accelerator rolls in good conditionIJ I had always thought that the rolls would tend to such air from distribution auger area but maybe when shoe area runs at some pressure the air would go the other way. I thought I saw a post one time on someone who had closed up the area above the accelerator rolls some and maybe it was to prevent any possible backwash coming around the rolls. Some models of machines have more or less accelerator rolls exposed and that is why I wonder what machine you are having trouble with.
