Davo, Marv doesn't like subjects not related to harvesting. If you right click on the link below and left click on "open in new window" you can read some thoughts we have about the subject. Feel free to join in. Ed in Montana

Your complaining to the wrong group here, Davo! We are not the "politicians" that are in control of our national destiny of CHEAP FOOD POlICY FOR VOTES. We as farmers in the US would love to see $4 Corn and $15 Soybeans again WITHOUT the government subsidies. Unfortunately, our government has gone to a policy of less than a half dozen Grain Dealers control our total Food_Feed Grains. They Deregulated them in the early 80's and USDA and EPA over-regulated the farmers and then subsidize us so that we can barely make ends meet and most of the Farm Program money actually goes to the Welfare program(Food Stamps),again a CHEAP FOOD POlICY! Keep the 98+% of the US Eating Cheap Food and get re-elected. We also don't have a major policy of Stopping Foreign Imports, go to any store and most products are no longer made in USA, yet we as American Farmers are "BARRED" from selling our products to many nations worldwide for one reason or another. We as US Farmers are not treated well in our own nation or around the world because of our politicians and their thought process or lack of! If you have a secret way of less than 2% of our nation changing national policy, please let us know! Majority rules in all societies that I know of and 98+% of non ag related people will always have their say in this nation, whether it is right or wrong!

The secret way that 2% of the population controls the vote on the farm bill is called the US Senate. South Dakota has more clout than California in the Senate and then add all the other farm states that have small populations and 2 senators and you have your answer on how they can tip the balance. If the House and the Bushies had their way the "Farm bill" would look a lot different then it turned out and I suspect you would really be unhappy. Add to the mix an election in November that both parties are desperate to win and you get the Farm Bill we got.

Ed, there is something wrong with that link, or maybe the Chief Money Spender forgot to pay the phone bill last month.

Davo good buddy, dont worry about the US farm bill. Very little changed from the previous farm bill except spending on social welfare programs increased and they changed the names of titles to make them sound good for the upcoming election. Johns reply in one of the best Ive read regarding the farm bill. Some of us prefer freedom but the majority seems to prefer socialism. Tom in MN

I hope Marv don't mind a short off topic burst. You have hit the nail on the head I believe John W. If I understand the US political situation correctly if you don't get the farm states you don't control the Senate so porkbarrelling is the name of the game.
