Combines Using a 38

well, i just finished up doing the opposite today on 30 acres. used an 8 row 36 inch cornhead to combine 8 - 38 inch rows. worked all right had to go a little slow. missed some of the stalks that were goose necked. benefit here was the narrower cornhead spacing caused the stalks to bend inward so any ears that fell fell into the cornhead. going with the wider cornhead on narrower row will cause the stalks to bend outward so there is a chance that ears will be thrown beyond the fenders. if using a 4 row head there will probably not be enough difference in the header to row spacing to make a big deal about. all in all it should work ok. good luck.

Doing the math you will increase the width 2" for every two rows

Assuming a six row head and runninng the combine centered over rows 3 and 4, they will be off 1" each, rows 2 and 5 will be off 3" each and rows 1 and 6 will be off 5" each.
