If you intend to cut a fair amount of grain, I'd opt for finding a rigid head. The 300 series simply have the cutterbar too far forward from the auger. In tall grain, they work ok but in short or weedy stuff, it piles up ahead of the auger. There are some tricks to try such as hanging rubber belting from the reel but the rigid heads can't be beat for smooth feeding in grain. You'll also want a finger pick-up reel if you ever run into downed grain. I think the major difference between the series II and III heads was with the auto header height. We've never had a series II so I'm not sure exactly what the differences were. Good luck!
