Combines var speed cyl drive

First you have some problem I can't diagnose but it is not in the design. These are almost trouble free as long as the bearings are packed and set every 500 hours or so. Sounds like you have a nut_thread problem. Get a parts diagram and make sure every thing in in place _ obtain another used threaded assy. If you store outside maybe a stainless chain if this is problem. As to the head, anything is possible but you are talking BIG BUCKS. Hyd reel drive, throat, auto head control will all have to be made_changed_adapted 20thou IJ Finally since you mentioned it; a match is now out of the solution equation if you collect insurance _ unless you like a cell mate named Bubba with adoring eyes... he would free up your variable speed..... ^)

bubba would free up things. the combine is put inside every night and winterized ever year. when you mention set, do you refer to the amount of tension put on the nut when packing the bearings. were almost done w_ corn and that bad boy is number 1 on my list. it's almost as if something's bound up in it.

I had the same problem and it was the lock ring inside the hub holding the bearings in place their are two rings one on each side we welded the ring in place can still take bearings out the other side. Hope this helps. The hub is not supposed to rub on the sprocket.

yes, and there are orings that can get pinched. There are shims under the washer on the outside bolt as well. As before, get a manual for your sn and follow set up proceedures. Take note of the thread to shaft tighness and condition. If the sprocket to shaft thread mate gets messed up, you do have problems.

Are you sure it's your cylinder sheaves and not the n40 chain that's locking up. If chain is not used often, dust can cause it to bind up.
