The vertical auger will come down and out the bottom, however it may take a little persuading. We had a 1480 and had the auger out probably twice and it did not want to come out either time. Were it is probably caught at is the bottom plate is not "releasing". My dad and I sort of cork screwed with 5 foot shaft and it came out rather quickly. Weighs several pounds and eat your wheaties. Recommend the heavy duty auger if you replace. It will outlast original two times. Extended Wear is the name I'm thinking of. If the long shaft doesn't work let me know. Make sure all bolts are out of the bottom. May sound like overkill but it could be your problem. We did that once and felt pretty stupid!! Any questions let my know. Kent
