Wal-Mart Enters Beef Industry

I just found out that Wal-Mart is joining the beef industry. They just had a grand opening of their newest meat processing facility in Georgia on Friday. Wal-Mart is going to begin providing its customers with all-natural, no-hormones added Black Angus beef. Their processing plant will employ hundreds of people.

How do you all think this might affect the beef industry? I wonder if smaller ranchers will be put out of business once things get underway?

Smaller ranchers who have a dedicated customer base probably won't be affected. At least I would hope not. They, the customers, can get the same quality from a local person who has 8 head of cattle and the trust factor has already been established.

It sounds like a good deal if they don't take it too far. In other words, don't get greedy and want to take over the food source in America.

Walmart totally put a lot of family dairy farms out of business here in upstate NY. when they entered the milk industry.
